What is Cocomo Sport Compression?
Compression garments represent a way of safely and legally manipulating human physiology to produce an internal environment that is more conducive to high performance and faster recovery. The science and craftsmanship that goes into the development of each Cocomo compression garment has been designed to get you over the line first. Unlike Lycra pants, compression garments are night just tight pants; the difference is that compression garments have graded compression. Simply, this means that compression garments are slightly tighter at the bottom of the garment than they are at the top. This helps the body pump blood for the deep veins back to the heart, replenishing your blood’s oxygen levels quicker.
How does the science of compression apply to athletes?
The improvements in performance of athletes wearing Cocomo compression garments have been proven to be scientifically significant in the following areas:
INCREASED VO2MAX AND ANAEROBIC THERSHOLD
In other words, while training, the respiratory parameters of those wearing Cocomo Compression turned out to be positively modified; oxygen needed decreased by three litres per minute and the respiratory rate diminished significantly.
REDUCED MUSCLE OSCILLATION
Which contributes to reducing the onset of fatigue and interferes with neurotransmission and optimal muscle recruitment patterns in endurance running and cycling
INCREASED EXPLOSIVE MUSCULAR POWER
By over 5% in any eccentric-concentric contraction
REDUCED BLOOD LACTATE CONCENTRATIONS
Were seen with the lactic acid concentration in capillary blood shown to decrease by 12%.
REDUCED TEMPERATURE VARIATION
When they were wearing Cocomo Compression the athlete’s temperature variation turned out to be three times lower than when they were wearing 100% polyester.
FASTER RECOVERY
With a decrease of muscular soreness seen in the days following intense or novel exercise. Compression reduced the severity of muscle damage (creatine kinase) at 36 and 84 hours post event. While a reduction in swelling is seen up to give days later by 2-3cm.
Why you need the benefits of Compression?
Both aerobic and anaerobic sports require a great deal of physical and mental exertion. A sporting event is never won or lost on the day of competition but rather in the countless hours you pend exerting your body to its full potential during training. Training to your absolute optimum is the difference between winning and losing. The science behind Cocomo compression allows you to train at your very best, day in and day out.
When should I wear Cocomo Compression?
The ability to recover and prevent injury is vital to your long term success. Small gains in training performance relate to massive gains on event day. Therefore, we recommend the use of Cocomo Compression the following way throughout your training regime.
| Recovery | Endurance | Speed |
| Arm Focused Sports | LST, TT, SST | LST, TT, SST | LST, TT, SST |
| Leg Focused Sports | LP | LP, MT, SK, AK | LP, MT, SK, AK |
| Running Based Sports | LP | LP, MT, SK, AK | LP, MT, SK, AK |
Key:
LP = Long Pant
LST = Long Sleeve Top
MT = Mid-Thigh
SK = Socks
AK = Above Knee
TT = Tank Top
SST = Short Sleeve Top
Won’t Compression restrict my movement?
Compression garments are very thin and thus don’t impair movement. In fact, research in athletes has shown that athletic technique is not restricted by wearing compression garments. Efficiency of movements is key to the improvements in endurance athlete’s performance. Research shows that an improved efficiency is shown in the movements of individuals using compression garments, resulting in less energy being used to perform movement whilst wearing Compression Garments.
Will Compression garments lead to overheating?
Evaporation is an important method of heat loss for the body and involves head being transferred to water on the surface of the skin. Once the water gains sufficient heat it is converted to gas (water vapour) taking the heat with it away from the body. Consequently, it is not just sweating that is critical to cooling the body but the evaporation of that sweat. Cocomo Compression fabric utilises the moisture management technology that enhances this process by catching the moisture, moving it away and releasing it for quicker evaporation. Consequently, Cocomo Compression garments ensure superior temperature regulation and moisture management – in other words, the Cocomo fabric promotes perspiration and moisture evaporation at a faster rate.
